A roll in the grass

I won’t be able to write about my tour in chronological order because firstly, I haven’t processed all of the films shot from it yet (10 rolls of colour are glaring at me from my bag as I type this) and secondly, I can’t remember things in the correct order.  There’s too much to write about in fact. I reckon as I develop each roll of film that I’ll have to write a nonsensical blog about it. So I shall begin with some film that I have developed and printed, of a roll in the grass that I had with Sarah and Fizzy.

Oh yeah, Fizzy… my touring buddy for the past two weeks.  It’s been a traumatic trip evidently, and this was taken way before the horse-biting incident.

Fizzy

I’ll tell you about the cigarette stealing gang of horses that we narrowly avoided next time, amongst other things. I need the photographs to prove that some of this shit actually happened!

In reality Fizzy looks like this 99% of the time.

Fizzy

I’ve had so much fun on this trip with Fizzy and I love shooting her. Lots of photographers ask me what she is like in person and I always say the same thing – she’s utterly lovely! Really delicate but at the same time, incredibly strong. I was really unhappy with the images that I took of her first time that we shot, mostly down to me having a confidence issue over some personal things that had occurred the day before. Now looking back over those and to be honest most of my digital work, I feel really dissatisified with the look that those gave me. Much like when my tutor at college was adamant that I should try using pastels instead of paint, when I compare my film results to the digital results I have from my early work, there isn’t any comparison. This isn’t to say I hate digital, I have hundreds of images that people have taken of me that I love! I just hate using it for my own work and don’t feel any passion for it at all.

I’m never really happy with my work, but film is definitely my medium.

These were all shot on Rollei Retro 400. One of my favourite types of film. Also with two of my favourite models, Fizzy and Sarah. My models *rubs thighs* I’m not really looking to shoot any new people at the moment because I’m really enjoying working with a small number of models that I’ve already shot. Namely Faye, Fizzy and Sarah. That’s not to say that I won’t work with new people, I have some coming up soon actually and one of them a man model thing! For the most part though, I kinda want to concentrate on pushing on with these people and seeing what else we can create together.
